I am trying to run the Holo Sim 1 campaign. The game runs fine at any quality setting until I hit the step where you use the 1-5 keys to change the speed. At this point the game begins to lag so badly that it is essentially frozen. I am lucky if I can use ESC to get to the menu and quit, otherwise I have to "end task". This happen every time I attempt to play. I have checked to verify that my CPU isn't maxed out (20%), or my RAM (70% - 11GB of 16GB) or my graphics card(AMD R9 200). I can't find any bottleneck that would be causing this behavior. I tried running as administrator as well. The last oddity is that many times after quitting my avencolony.exe file will be missing. I have checked to verify my antivirus software is not deleting it. Very strange.

I believe this to be a bug in the game also, because when I get to the point where the Holo Sim 1 tutorial asks to use the 1-5 keys the game does come to a grinding halt.  Then it will stagger along to the part where it asks to hover over the electricity on the bottom right then when you go to click Next the game just stops.

edit: I have downloaded the game both via the itch.io app and then uninstalled it, downloaded the game from the website separately and installed it again.  The issue persists.

Yes, as you described, the electricity step is the final straw where I always quit.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these problems.  We have never seen this issue before on any of the systems that we've tested the game with.

If you could please do the following, that will help us track down the issue:

  • Find your AvenColony/Saved folder.
  • Compress that whole AvenColony/Saved folder into a ZIP file or RAR file.
  • Please e-mail that ZIP or RAR file to info@mothership-entertainment.com
  • Also let us know in the e-mail what OS you're using, what video card, and make sure to mention your username as well so that we can reconcile that with these forum posts.

Done. You should have the email plus attachment. Let me know if you need more information to help figure it out. Unfortunately, this bug makes it impossible for me to actually play the game.

Yeah, I sent mine last night also.  It includes a dxdiag file, the saved.zip I created and then I still put in specifics of my hardware in the header of the email also.  Hopefully ya'll figure it out.

Thanks, guys!  We are working on a fix right now and have identified a problem which is very likely the cause of this slowdown.  We expect to have an update available within the next day or two.

So I have an update... it turns out it is only Holo Sim 1 that locks up. I just tried Holo Sim 2 and I am having no problem so far even running on the highest settings. Changing speeds has no problem on Holo Sim 2. Interesting. I will continue to test and update.

Just played the Vanaar scenario without any issues. So it seems it is only the Holo Sim 1 scenario so far. (Great game, really enjoying it so far)

Just tested the 12909 version and HoloSim1 still lags at the speed change step and stops at the hover over electrical indicator step as before. Not sure if the fix for that was supposed to be included in this version, but I wanted to test it anyway.

So after more testing, the game lags heavily whenever I pause. If I keep it running it runs fairly steady, but any time there is an event that pauses the game it really lags hard until I can get it running again. There is some heavy lag during some of the overlay views ( I will have to do more testing to identify which ones), and lastly, the disappearing exe file issue persists. I have to replace it almost every time I quit the game, and the only way to replace it is to restart the computer, otherwise it gives me a permissions error (regardless of my admin and owner rights). Sorry to throw all these in together, but most of these issues seem very related to the heavy slow down in Holo Sim 1. Something happens when the game is paused that slows everything down. The tutorials do a lot of pausing in between actions. So the root issue revolves around that, or is caused by that.

Sorry, to clarify, I was playing Sandy Gulch while doing the last test.

Update: I just tried Version 13041 and even with the graphics setting all the way down the game begins experiencing severe lag on the "Change the Game Speed" step and all steps after that on the HoloSim 1 tutorial. It did better than the earlier versions but it was still not playable.

Thanks for the heads-up.  We'll keep looking into this.

Could you send us your Saved folder as a ZIP file, as per the stickied post?  That would help us track this down.
