I haven't seen any other posts on this topic so it may just be me but I've been having issues with playing on the game once my colony gets to be sustaining 400-500 people. Loading the building overlay takes forever and when I click on a farm it takes 30 seconds to load the overlay, and there is no way to select the farm without it popping up even if I just have to repair the farm and not change anything else.

I am playing on a computer with 16GB of RAM a nVidea GeForce 1070 4GB GPU and a core i7 processor which runs games like the Witcher 3 on full graphical settings without a problem as well as rendering VR games so I don't think that the computer is the issue in this case.

Can you provide more details on your configuration like exactly which i7, laptop or desktop, or provide a dxdiag log?

I have a similar configuration to yours, with i7 6700K, and didn't get any lag at all.

I have the same problem. Big lag... I playing to Aven Colony since last summer and with the latest version (1.1.5759) I encounter big lag. Never before. (note : I didn't try the version just before (1.1.5657)).

I think I solved the problem...

I deleted all the entire install folder, with the saved folder (included config, logs and SaveGames folders) before re-install the new version. I build a big city with over 250 peoples and now it's all OK, no lag,

I just downloaded the game to play again though steam, last time I played was many months ago, and this issue is still here. It is the single biggest playability issue in the game and absolutely needs to be fixed before release.

The problem seems to be their "highlight stuff in range" for building placement algorithm is rather slow and runs on the render thread, this means every time I try to place a building in a large colony I get up to a 5 second freeze every time I move the location as it recalculates. Selecting existing builds has a similar issue with farms/greenhouses being the worse.

Either these algorithms need to be improved in speed by a couple of orders of magnitude or (preferably) they need to be moved onto a seapare thread with the render thread updating the display in a snake like fashion as the results become available.

It certainly isn't my machine, an overlocked 6900k, 32GB ram and 2x1080s, so I can certainly see how people with slower PCs could end up with much longer delays.

not true, my PC use B85-Gamer motherboard with I7 processors and Intel HD VGA (both comes with motherboard) and can handle a big colony 1.1k ~ 1.6k colonists quite nicely (17 ~ 33 fps on custom settings during day season and 23 ~ 41 fps during night season).

But I agree about building placement algorithm, it quite slow but it not the only one that need some improvement. Overlay overview also have similar issue.
