Thinking about buying the game but been hearing that the colony looks very static due to no visible traffic and such or animations. Whats people opinions on this so i can get a clearer picture.

Your statement is mostly true Melivore, although, like Paul Tozour says, one can zoom into the tunnels and have a short talk with the people passing by. There are also some external 'factors, like sandworms, attacking spores, ice storms that damage your buildings. A nice effect is the lightning that hits your conductors.
It's nice, but it doesn't have the 'village' magic that Banished had...
