Clarification regarding Steam key distribution
We have now distributed Steam keys to our itch.io customers.
We hadn't initially planned to give out Steam keys, and we were unable to promise them to anyone at the time. However, several things changed over the last few months.
In case you're interested in the history of how this decision came about, here's a clarification:
- Although we're quite big fans of itch,io, in discussions with our publishing partner, Team17, it became clear that it it made the most sense to eventually consolidate our PC customers onto the Steam platform as we work toward simultaneous launch of Aven Colony on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 later this year.
- Our goal with the beta was to grow our user base enough to give us solid feedback on the beta and a direct line of communication with our customers through itch.io comments and our forums at AvenColony.com, and it's clear that we already have enough customers to achieve that goal.
- As a result, we've decided it's best to put off future purchases for the full game launch -- and we've now locked off the game to future purchases on itch.io.
- Given that it's no longer possible to purchase the game until its official launch in Q2 of this year, we're now able to distribute Steam keys to all of our initial itch.io customers.
We're glad to be able to support you with Steam keys, and we appreciate your understanding.
We will continue to update those of you currently playing the beta with new versions as they become available every 3-4 weeks, and we will continue to update the game on itch.io as well as Steam.
